Presentation
Les Morgeots Rouge Domaine Ramonet J-C 2021 is a refined expression of Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru in its red guise, crafted by one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines. In a village better known for its great white wines, this cuvée reveals the depth and finesse of Pinot Noir on the powerful Morgeots terroir. The 2021 vintage, marked by freshness and moderate ripeness, offers a wine of precision rather than sheer power, with a beautiful balance between fruit, structure and mineral tension. Lovers of classic Burgundy will find here a wine that privileges nuance, length and complexity over exuberance.
Origin and Production
- The grapes come from the Morgeots Premier Cru climat in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune. This southern part of the Côte d’Or is characterized by limestone and clay soils that give Pinot Noir both density and freshness, with a distinctive earthy and spicy profile.
- The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic red grape of Burgundy, renowned for its ability to reflect even the subtlest nuances of terroir through delicate color, fine tannins and complex aromatics.
- Vinification at Domaine Ramonet is traditionally Burgundian, with careful sorting, fermentation in vat and aging in oak barrels. The use of wood is generally measured, designed to support the wine’s structure and aromatic development without overshadowing the purity of the fruit or the character of the Premier Cru.
Tasting
- Appearance
Deep ruby with bright garnet reflections, showing both concentration and a certain transparency typical of fine Pinot Noir. The rim is still youthful, attesting to the recent vintage. - Nose
Expressive yet elegant, opening with notes of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by nuances of violet, peony, subtle spice, and a hint of undergrowth and graphite that evoke the Morgeots terroir. - Palate
The attack is supple and fresh, then builds on a finely woven tannic frame. The mid-palate combines juicy red fruit with delicate earthy and mineral notes. The finish is long and persistent, carried by lively acidity and precise tannins, promising very good evolution in bottle.
Food Pairings & Drinking Occasions
- This Premier Cru pairs beautifully with:
- Roast poultry or guinea fowl with herbs
- Veal chops or pork tenderloin with light jus
- Mushroom-based dishes, such as forest mushroom fricassee
- Soft to semi-hard cheeses like Reblochon or Tomme de Savoie
- It is ideal for refined meals with Burgundy enthusiasts, intimate dinners, or as a centerpiece bottle for a tasting focused on Côte de Beaune reds, where its balance and complexity can be fully appreciated.
Cellaring Potential and Service
- The optimal drinking window begins around 2025, once the structure has started to soften and the bouquet has gained in complexity.
- The wine has the capacity to age for approximately 8 to 12 years from the vintage, depending on storage conditions, developing more tertiary aromas of undergrowth, truffle and dried flowers.
- Serve at a temperature of 15–16°C. Decanting for 30 to 45 minutes in its first years can help the wine fully open and reveal the subtleties of this Premier Cru. Store the bottles lying down, protected from light and temperature variations.
