Presentation
The Batard Montrachet Domaine Ramonet J-C 2012 is a grand cru white Burgundy that epitomises the power and depth of Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune. Produced by one of the most respected estates in Chassagne-Montrachet, this wine combines opulence and precision in a style that is both luxurious and rigorously sculpted. The 2012 vintage, marked by low yields and excellent concentration, offers a wine of remarkable intensity, built for long ageing yet already captivating in the glass.Origin and Winemaking
- The terroir of Bâtard-Montrachet lies between the legendary Montrachet and the village vineyards of Chassagne and Puligny. Deep, well-drained limestone-clay soils and a gentle slope give wines that are broad, dense and profoundly mineral, with a natural richness tempered by vibrant acidity.
- This grand cru is crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, the emblematic white grape of Burgundy. Here it reaches one of its highest expressions, allying volume, texture and complex aromatics derived from both grape and site.
- At Domaine Ramonet, winemaking is traditionally Burgundian, with careful pressing, fermentation in oak barrels and long ageing on lees. A judicious proportion of new oak and bâtonnage, applied with restraint, contribute structure and subtle toasted notes without masking the purity of fruit or the salinity of the terroir.
Tasting
- Appearance
Brilliant, luminous gold with green highlights, showing impressive viscosity in the glass, a sign of both concentration and maturity. - Nose
Complex and evolving, with layers of ripe citrus, white peach and pear, followed by notes of fresh almond, hazelnut, acacia blossom and a fine touch of brioche. With aeration, hints of butter, flint, chalk and subtle spice emerge, reflecting the great limestone terroir. - Palate
Full-bodied and enveloping, yet perfectly balanced by a vibrant, tensile acidity. The texture is silky and dense, with flavours of lemon cream, stone fruits, toasted nuts and delicate oak. The mineral backbone stretches the wine into a very long, saline and precise finish, promising further complexity with time.
Food Pairing & Moments
- Ideal with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot with beurre blanc, poultry in cream sauce, or veal with morels. It also pairs beautifully with aged Comté, Beaufort or other noble hard cheeses.
- Best enjoyed during special meals, gastronomic tastings or contemplative evenings where its nuances can be followed over the course of a bottle, ideally after a short decanting.
Ageing Potential and Service
- The optimal drinking window begins around 2020 and extends comfortably over the next decade.
- This 2012 grand cru has a significant ageing potential, easily 15 to 20 years from the vintage in a good cellar, gaining tertiary notes of honey, dried fruit and truffle.
- Serve between 11 and 13 °C, in large Burgundy glasses, after gentle aeration to reveal the full complexity of this exceptional white wine.
