Presentation
Tourettes rouge Maison Delas 2023 is a refined red wine from the northern Rhône, crafted in a classic, elegant style. This cuvée embodies the character of its steep, sun‑drenched hillsides, where Syrah finds one of its finest expressions. The wine combines depth and structure with a precise, fresh profile, making it suitable both for immediate pleasure and for careful cellaring. Lovers of nuanced Rhône reds will appreciate its balance between aromatic intensity, tannic finesse and a long, savoury finish.
Origin and Winemaking
- The terroir is shaped by the granitic and schist slopes typical of the northern Rhône, benefiting from a continental climate moderated by the Mistral wind. These conditions favour slow ripening, concentration of aromas and a natural freshness that underpins the wine’s structure.
- The wine is produced from Syrah, the emblematic red grape of the region. Syrah from this area is renowned for its aromatic complexity, combining dark fruit, floral notes and spicy nuances, supported by a firm yet refined tannic framework.
- Vinification follows traditional Rhône practices, with careful sorting of the grapes, controlled fermentations to preserve fruit purity and gentle extraction for well‑integrated tannins. Ageing typically takes place partly in oak barrels and partly in vats, seeking harmony between varietal expression, texture and subtle notes of wood without dominance.
Tasting
-
Appearance
Deep ruby colour with purple highlights, indicating a youthful wine of good concentration. The tears on the glass are dense, suggesting a generous structure. -
Nose
Expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe cherry, complemented by violet, delicate pepper and hints of liquorice. Subtle touches of smoked meat, graphite and a discreet oak note bring additional complexity and a distinctly Rhône character. -
Palate
The attack is supple yet focused, quickly revealing a full, finely chiselled texture. The tannins are ripe and silky, framing a core of dark fruit and spice. Fresh acidity elongates the palate, with savoury mineral notes and a persistent finish evoking black pepper, cocoa and herbs.
Food Pairings & Tasting Occasions
-
This wine is an excellent partner for:
- roast or grilled red meats (lamb, beef, game birds)
- slow‑cooked dishes such as beef stew or lamb shank
- flavourful poultry, mushroom‑based recipes and Mediterranean cuisine
- mature cheeses with character, especially hard or semi‑hard types
- Ideal for refined dinners, autumn and winter meals, or sharing among enthusiasts around a gastronomic table. It also shines in guided tastings focused on Rhône terroirs and the expression of Syrah.
Cellaring Potential and Serving
- Minimum drinking window: enjoyable from its first few years in bottle, after a short aeration to allow the bouquet to open fully.
- With proper storage conditions, the wine offers a promising ageing potential of several years, during which the tannins will soften and the tertiary aromas (leather, truffle, dried flowers) will gradually develop.
- Serve at 16–18 °C. Decanting 1 to 2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to reveal the full aromatic complexity of Tourettes rouge Maison Delas 2023.
