Description

Presentation

Bernadette Peirazeau-Groffier Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru 1992 is a mature Burgundy of rare pedigree, sourced from one of the most revered climats of the Côte de Nuits. This Grand Cru, crafted in the early 1990s, today offers the refined expression of an aged Pinot Noir, where primary fruit has gracefully evolved into complex tertiary nuances. It is a wine for connoisseurs who appreciate subtlety, depth and the unique charm of perfectly developed Burgundy.

Origin and Winemaking

  • The wine comes from Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. This historic parcel, with its limestone-rich soils and excellent drainage, is renowned for producing some of the most structured and long-lived Pinot Noirs in the world.
  • The grape variety is 100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic red cépage of Burgundy, known here for its capacity to combine power, finesse and remarkable aromatic complexity as it ages.
  • Vinification in 1992 would typically have followed traditional Burgundian methods: careful sorting of the grapes, fermentation in vats with gentle extraction, then maturation in French oak barrels. A proportion of new oak is usually employed to support the wine’s structure, followed by long bottle aging allowing the bouquet to fully develop.

Tasting

  • Appearance
The robe shows a garnet core with brick and tile reflections on the rim, characteristic of a Pinot Noir that has reached full maturity, yet still retaining clarity and luminosity.
  • Nose
The bouquet opens with evolved aromas of dried red berries, morello cherry and rose petal, followed by notes of undergrowth, truffle, tobacco leaf and delicate spice. Hints of leather, cedar and a touch of game underline the great age-worthy nature of this Grand Cru.
  • Palate
The attack is silky and expansive, with a finely woven tannic structure now fully resolved. Flavors of cranberry, stewed cherry and dried fig mingle with forest floor, mushroom and subtle savory nuances. The finish is long, graceful and saline, carried by a still-vibrant acidity that brings lift and precision.

Food Pairing & Serving Occasions

  • This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, veal with morels, mature poultry, or earthy preparations featuring wild mushrooms and truffle. It also shines alongside aged hard cheeses.
  • Ideal for contemplative dinners, special celebrations or intimate tastings among Burgundy enthusiasts, it deserves time, attention and a calm setting to fully reveal its many layers.

Cellaring Potential and Service

  • The minimum recommended drinking window is now open; well-stored bottles are at or near their peak, offering a superb mature expression.
  • The wine has already enjoyed a long evolution; while the best bottles can still hold, it is wise to enjoy them in the short to medium term, monitoring each bottle individually.
  • Serve at around 15–17 °C. Decanting 30 to 45 minutes before serving can help the bouquet unfold without tiring this delicate, mature Pinot Noir.
