Presentation
Macon Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon 2022 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the cool, limestone-rich hillsides of the Mâconnais with uncommon precision. Crafted by one of the region’s most respected domaines, this cuvée offers a pure, vibrant expression of Chardonnay, balancing ripe fruit, mineral tension and measured richness. It is a wine for enthusiasts who seek both immediacy of pleasure and depth of terroir.
Origin and Production
- The vineyard lies in the village of Milly-Lamartine, in southern Bourgogne, where altitude and calcareous soils bring freshness and finesse. The climat “Clos du Four” is known for well-drained slopes and a cooler microclimate, giving wines with aromatic brightness and defined structure.
- This is a 100% Chardonnay, the emblematic white grape of Burgundy. In this area, Chardonnay typically marries ripe stone fruit with citrus and a distinct chalky minerality, supported by a naturally balanced acidity.
- Vinification follows a Burgundian approach focused on clarity and texture: gentle pressing, fermentation in tank and/or oak, and an élevage on fine lees to add nuance and length. Oak, when used, is judicious, aiming to frame the wine rather than dominate it, in line with the estate’s philosophy of highlighting terroir.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance
Pale gold with silver and light straw reflections, clear and bright, showing a youthful, energetic aspect in the glass. - Nose
Expressive yet refined, opening with notes of white flowers, lemon zest and ripe pear, then evolving towards peach, fresh almond and a subtle chalky, stony impression. Delicate hints of butter and brioche suggest a measured maturation on lees. - Palate
The attack is precise and lively, with a fine, linear acidity that carries flavors of citrus, white peach and crunchy apple. The mid-palate gains in volume with creamy texture and savory mineral undertones. The finish is long, saline and mouthwatering, leaving a sensation of clarity and elegance.
