Presentation
The Méo-Camuzet Les Perrières 2009 is a red Burgundy from Nuits-Saint-Georges, expressing the depth and refinement of a highly regarded Premier Cru terroir in a great Côte de Nuits vintage. This wine combines the structure and intensity typical of the appellation with a sensual, finely textured character, reflecting the meticulous work of one of the most respected domaines in the region. It offers a profile that is both powerful and precise, aimed at enthusiasts looking for complexity, length and a true sense of place.
In 2009, a warm and generous year in Burgundy, this cuvée achieved a harmonious maturity, giving a wine with ripe, pure fruit, supported by a tannic frame that remains elegant. It is a bottle that speaks of terroir rather than extraction, and rewards attentive tasting as much as careful cellaring.
Origin and Production
- The wine comes from the Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyard, on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, on a terroir of limestone and clay that produces wines of marked character. The “Les Perrières” climat is known for its stony, well-drained soils, which favour concentration, freshness and a clearly defined mineral backbone.
- This is a pure Pinot Noir, the emblematic red grape of Burgundy, renowned for its ability to translate subtle variations of terroir into nuanced, complex wines with remarkable ageing capacity.
- Vinification follows traditional Burgundian methods: careful sorting of the grapes, fermentation in vats with controlled extraction to preserve finesse, then maturation in oak barrels, a proportion of which is new, to refine the tannins and add gentle spicy and toasted notes without overpowering the fruit.
Tasting
-
Appearance
Deep, luminous ruby colour with garnet reflections on the rim, showing both maturity and good concentration. -
Nose
Expressive bouquet of ripe cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry, evolving towards notes of violet, undergrowth, fine spices and a subtle touch of smoke and graphite, characteristic of this stony terroir. -
Palate
The attack is ample and silky, with a core of juicy black and red fruit. The mid-palate is structured by refined, tightly knit tannins, while the finish is long, saline and slightly spicy, underpinned by a fresh acidity that brings tension and balance.
Food Pairings & Tasting Moments
- This wine pairs beautifully with noble dishes such as roasted duck breast, lamb saddle with herbs, game birds, or refined poultry dishes with truffle jus. It also works very well with mushroom-based preparations and carefully matured semi-soft or hard cheeses.
- It is ideal for gastronomic dinners, intimate tastings among Burgundy lovers, or as a highlight bottle for a special occasion where one wants to showcase a characterful Côte de Nuits red with pedigree.
Ageing Potential and Serving
- The earliest recommended drinking window is from now after a gentle decanting, with the wine showing a beautiful tertiary complexity while retaining its core of fruit.
- The ageing potential remains significant for a 2009, with the possibility of continued development in bottle depending on storage conditions, allowing the bouquet to gain more nuances of sous-bois, leather and spice.
- Serve at a temperature of around 15–16 °C, ideally after decanting 1 to 2 hours beforehand to allow the wine to fully open and reveal the depth of this fine Nuits-Saint-Georges terroir.
