In this cuvée, the hallmark elegance of Chambolle meets a more structured and mineral profile, giving a wine of remarkable balance. The 2009 vintage brings ripe, silky fruit, wrapped in fine tannins and a lingering, nuanced finish that invites contemplative tasting.
Origin and Winemaking
- The wine hails from the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, on the Premier Cru climat Les Combottes. The terroir is characterized by limestone-rich soils with clay and stones, promoting excellent drainage and giving wines of precision, freshness and subtle floral notes.
- The grape variety is 100% Pinot Noir, emblematic of red Burgundy. Here it expresses itself with a delicate yet intense aromatic palette, focused on red berries, floral nuances and a fine, chalky minerality.
- Vinification at Domaine Roumier is traditionally Burgundian, with careful sorting of the grapes, fermentations in vats to respect the purity of the fruit, and measured extraction. Ageing typically takes place in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, to bring complexity and texture without masking the identity of the terroir.
Tasting
- Appearance
Brilliant ruby core with garnet reflections on the rim, showing its evolution while retaining notable brightness and density. - Nose
Expressive and layered, with notes of ripe cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, followed by hints of violet, rose petal and subtle spice. With aeration emerge touches of undergrowth, fine tobacco and a delicate oak imprint. - Palate
Silky and precise attack, then a mid-palate that gains in depth with finely grained tannins. The fruit is juicy yet controlled, supported by fresh acidity and a persistent mineral backbone. The finish is long, savoury and harmoniously evolved, revealing truffle and dried flower nuances.
Food Pairings & Tasting Occasions
- This Premier Cru pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roasted poultry, veal with morels, duck breast, or delicate game birds. It also shines alongside dishes based on mushrooms, truffles, and subtly seasoned risottos, as well as aged but not overly powerful cheeses.
- Choose it for intimate gastronomic dinners, special family occasions, or as a centerpiece for a focused Burgundy tasting with passionate wine lovers. Its complexity and maturity make it ideal for unhurried, contemplative enjoyment.
Aging Potential and Service
- The optimal drinking window is now open, with the 2009 vintage offering a beautiful balance between mature aromas and retained freshness.
- It has a further aging potential of several years in a good cellar, allowing tertiary notes to develop while keeping its structure and charm.
- Serve at around 15–16 °C, ideally after decanting for 30 to 60 minutes to fully reveal its aromatic complexity and textural finesse. Use large Burgundy stemware to allow the bouquet to unfold.
