Presentation
The cuvée
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Au Bas de Combe' 2022 is a precise and refined expression of the northern sector of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Nestled just below Vosne-Romanée, this climat is renowned for producing wines of great finesse, combining the depth typical of Nuits with the silkier touch of its prestigious neighbor. In 2022, a ripe yet balanced vintage in Burgundy, the wine offers an elegant profile, with pure fruit, refined tannins and a luminous freshness that will appeal to demanding Pinot Noir enthusiasts.
Origin and Winemaking
- The terroir of “Au Bas de Combe” is situated on the cooler, more limestone-influenced side of Nuits-Saint-Georges, close to the Vosne-Romanée boundary. Shallow soils over hard limestone favor low yields and small berries, giving wines with fine tannins, tension and aromatic precision.
- This red Burgundy is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape of the Côte de Nuits. Here it takes on a particularly delicate and nuanced expression, marked by red fruit and floral overtones rather than sheer power.
- Vinification follows the classic traditions of the domaine, with careful sorting of the grapes, gentle extraction to preserve finesse, and aging in oak barrels, including a proportion of new wood used with restraint. This élevage refines the structure, integrates the tannins and adds subtle spicy and toasty nuances without overshadowing the purity of the fruit.
Tasting
- Appearance
Brilliant ruby color with medium intensity, displaying youthful purple reflections that attest to its recent vintage and vibrant fruit core.
- Nose
The bouquet opens with notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and morello cherry, followed by hints of violet and rose petal. With aeration, subtle touches of sweet spices, fine oak, a whisper of undergrowth and graphite emerge, revealing depth and complexity.
- Palate
The attack is supple and precise, carried by a fresh, linear acidity. The mid-palate is finely chiseled, with silky yet present tannins and a juicy red-fruit core. Mineral undertones and delicate spice stretch into a long, graceful finish, characteristic of a northern Nuits with a Vosne-like elegance. The balance between fruit, structure and freshness promises excellent evolution in bottle.

Aging Potential and Serving
- The optimal drinking window begins around 2026, once the structure has started to harmonize and the bouquet has gained complexity.
- The aging potential is promising: this 2022 can be cellared for 10 to 15 years under good conditions, developing notes of sous-bois, truffle and dried flowers while preserving its finesse.
- Serve between 15 and 16°C. Decanting for 30 to 60 minutes in its youth will help open up the nose and soften the tannins, allowing Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Au Bas de Combe' 2022 to reveal its full aromatic and textural subtlety.
